News Release from the Illinois Department of Transportation on Wednesday, November 11th, 2015

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced today that temporary, overnight ramp closures will be taking place on the interchange between the Stevenson Expressway (Interstate 55) and Lake Shore Drive (U.S. 41) beginning, weather permitting, Wednesday, Nov. 18.

The closures are necessary to complete pavement repairs for the ongoing I-55/U.S 41 interchange reconstruction project.
Starting on Wednesday, Nov. 18, through Monday, Nov. 23, the following ramp closures will occur:
  • Outbound northbound Lake Shore Drive to southbound Stevenson ramp: The ramp will be closed starting at 9 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 18) to 5 a.m. the following morning. The ramp will be closed to traffic starting at 11:59 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 20) to 8 a.m. the following morning. A detour route will be posted, directing traffic to the northbound Lake Shore Drive exit at 18th Street to southbound Lake Shore Drive to the southbound Stevenson ramp.
  • Outbound southbound Lake Shore Drive to southbound Stevenson ramp: The ramp will be closed starting at 9 p.m. both Sunday and Monday (Nov. 22-23) to 5 a.m. the following morning. A detour route will be posted, directing traffic to the southbound Lake Shore Drive exit at 31st Street to northbound Lake Shore Drive to the southbound Stevenson ramp.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
